Hello... New to bikes. I just got my first bike and it needs a rear tire and a new chain.

     This'll be for a '98 R1.

What are the brands that I should be looking at? Are there good R1 tuner companies I should look for?

I have a car background, so I while I'm mechanically inclined and stuff, I don't know brands/products/reps of bike companies.

Oh... And I know everyone's probably going to jump on me about getting an R1 for a first bike... But, it was too good a deal to pass up. And if it ends up being too much for me, I can always sell if for more than what I got it for...

Thanks, and nice to meet you all!

    Welcome

You won't hear a peep out of me about your choice. It's your life and limbs not mine. You wanna jump off a cliff by all means go for it.

    It's your choice.

D.I.D, Renthal, etc are decent chains.

Pirelli, Dunlops, Bridgestones, Metzler are decent tires.

αλήθεια some will never learn the meaning of it.

What kind of riding are you planning on doing? That will make a difference in recommendations. High speed freeway runs? chill check out the scenery runs? Corner carving runs?

Just like with cars... different setups are better for different scenarios.

I'm a big fan of Michlin pilot power 2CT tires. I am NOT a fan of pilot roads tires though.

never ridden on the Pirelli Corsa brand...but some people swear by them.

Chains... I like DID myself. However you're going to hear a lot of different opinions on this.

I will say this... if you're going to replace the chain... replace the sprockets as well. It takes an extra 15 minutes. The sprockets are easy once the chain is off.

    But that's just my opinion.
