    Anyone been through OCS/OCC?

Just wondering what your experiences were...

I am currently in the process of applying for OCC 200 (Marine Corps) in January for a pilot slot. From the looks of it I have a pretty good chance of getting selected. My OSO officer has a 100% success rate with the candidates he has put up against the selection board, so that also gives me some piece of mind. Getting ready for the PFT has finally got me back into shape, and studying for the math section in the ASTB is a pain since I gotta remember all these things from back in highschool. But I'm aiming for good scores on both, and will hopefully be ready for them near the end of september.

Anyways, just wanted to know what you guys currently do, and how it all went.

In the Army, the Warrant Officer is specialized in their field. For instance, a pilot, a maintenance officer (either ground or aircraft), or supply officer. They focus on this specialty and that is what they do. For the Commissioned Officer they are more of the staff type functions. They can also do any of the things mentioned above but they also do the day to day Company business. Think of the corporate ladder for a company. The upper management is the Commissioned Officer, the middle management is the Warrant Officers.

    Fuzzywuzzy...

Congrats on going into OCS... I also looked into going in, however I landed the job that I wanted so I choose to stay in the commercial market.  Hopefully what Im going to tell you is not new as I also looked into going to flight school (keep in mind this was a few years old info)

    1. Most of the folks that go through OCS are guranteed a seat in flight school after successfully finishing OCS and post OCS training (I dont remember what the course is called)

    2. If you wash out of flight school, you then goto training where the Corp needs you most and you will spend the remainder of your contract

Best of luck to you buddy and thanks for serving our country...

Thanks man...I havent actually got in yet, I still have to take the ASTB and do my PFT, but my chances are looking real good.

For the people that cant get through flight school or some medical thing comes up along the process your contract changes down to 3 years from 8. Regardless it should be fun, I like the challenge and the mind games should be fun too.

    My 2 cents

Good Luck to you Fuzzy Wuzzy Marine Corps OCS aint no joke, and its exactly what it is. A candidates school. The other pain starts when you get to TBS. The Basic School. Anywho, I dont thing the garunteed flight school thing is true. I know itts hard to get in to for marine officers. Our airwing is small as hell and we feed off the Navy. School seats are through the Navy so fourth and so on. I know two officers who dreamed of becoming pilots and have still had the chance at a flight school seat ( one of which is already a FAA cert pilot). I think like 20 get to go a year or something like that. Dont quote me, this is from talking to Flight school applicants. Warrent officer. The Marine corps doesnt have a WO Flight program like the Army, so unless you want to be Infantry, Supply, food service, Motor T. Leave the WO alone. Or go to the Army and fly under there WO program.

I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness...should I fail. I have seen the face of terror; Felt the stinging cold of fear; And enjoyed the sweet taste of a moments love. I have cried, pained, and hoped...but most of all, I have lived times others would say were best forgotten. At least someday I will be able to say that I was proud of what I am... A MARINE.

    Re: Anyone been through OCS/OCC?

put in a warrant packet for da army. seems you wanna fly choppa's... marine does not have much for fixed wing and neither does the army. if i were you, i'd submit a warrant packet and a occ packet and see which one goes thru first. unless you have an aircraft that you are just dying to fly... marines have certian airframes and the army has their stuff. aircraft selection doesn't always go the way you want it to anyways so... i would weigh my decision on just the available airframes.

i'm also not sure the marine corps gaurentees a flight skool slot. i met a few guys who came from the marine corps.

    in any case... good luck

The guarentee is that if you make it through your flight medical, occ, tbs, and then flight related schools that you will get a seat on either rotary or fixed wing. My goal is to get jets, but thats only for the best of the best, so it wont be easy.

I had two friends go through navy rotc, get through flight school and all that stuff only to end up on rotary aircraft, which isnt bad, but it wasnt their goal when joining.

Army and AF isnt what im looking for, if this falls through my other option would be navy, which has a larger number of aircraft and thus more seats to fill.

if you want jets... army ain't for you. go navy, i dunno why you hesitant about a/f if you want jets. i'd put a packet in for the navy and the a/f if you wantjets. g'luck! also, don't let that best of the best crap get you down... just go for what you want and let the chips fall where they may... we as people tend to underestimate our potential, so if ya want jets... then go for it! anyhows, g'luck to ya and be patient!
