    Undertail pipes/tail light question

Got an 08 R1 with a full Graves carbon fiber system and the exhaust keeps burning the integrated tail light.  Has anyone ever had an issue with this before?

Riding around in traffic or slow speeds isn't a problem, it's when the bike is going highway speeds for extended periods of time.  This is the third tail light that it's burned, and it's burning from the outside...not like an LED was fauked up or something like that.  And it's only the right side...looking at the Y pipe, the left side has about 3 more inches of pipe than the right...am thinking maybe that extra 3 inches is enough to cool the fumes not to burn it? Does that seem ridiculous?  The cans are CF, they're not that hot anyway.

The bike is definitely running lean...it's going on the dyno tomorrow morning, tuning should help the temp some but will it make that much of a difference?

Maybe shim the pipes to bring them outward just a little bit?

Anyone have any ideas?  And why doesn't the stock tail light burn with this system?  Are they really made THAT differently than the integrated?

    HUH?? You got an R1?

Ever single R1 I've seen with aftermarket exhaust "smokes" the tail light.

Take it to the track and get rid of all your signals/lights.  Problem solved.

    Ha! Mang, I wish...I can't even ride the 6 I have Snail  It's a customer's bike

I can understand messing with the tail light a LITTLE, but this is just burnt...all blistered up like styrofoam in the microwave

Grab some of that adhesive non conductive tape stuff. It's like heat wrap. You can put it under the integrated lights circuit board. A cheaper alternative is to buy an oven glove type thing and cut it up...then put that under the circuit (inside the cowling).

Not having it run lean should help with heat...but not sure how much heat it put out when running right.

    Good luck.

    But that's just my opinion.

What does your little vendor book to you to tell the customer? Oh wait...it's probably not in there LOL.
