Lawdog51 and I made the 875 mile trip to Jenny on Thursday night, got there on Friday. Did all this to get to good weather. Well the sportbike gods shined on us. It was not the 75 degrees that was stated in the 15 day report, but it was a nice sunny 62-64 degrees, with a nice breeze too. From what I been hearing about the weather up north, I have no complaints.
First session, it was chilly, and I am sportin new rubber. I chilled, they started falling like flies. At JenningsGp, you can sign up for what group you want to ride in. That tells you a lot right there. One fella that I met from another board, got pumped up on the second session, and since his buddy passed him, and he knew he was faster than his buddy, he went after him. No matter that this was the first lap and his pilot powers street tires were cold. He went down, sprained hand, and he was booked for two days, now he has to watch.
In the meantime, I am picking up a little speed at each session. Supposed to be working on my form, which stinks to high heaven. Can’t seem to get low. I need a personal coach on this. After lunch, I picked up a little more speed. I was getting more comfortable with the speed, so I went for a little more. About the second or third session after lunch, I get hot. I hook up behind some fast guys, and they carry me through the turns fast. Then all of sudden my 600rr starts talking to me. Told me it was takin over, and to hold on. Coming up on turn 13, I pick off two of my leaders, and then hooked up behind the others. They take me around even faster.
Sheesh, I am just holding on to the 600rr. Now, my 600rr takes aim at one of the other two going into turn 13. The 600rr shoots to the inside, I respond by looking through before I get to my turn point, and roll on at the same time I turn in. That rider was stabbed.
The 600rr wasn’t finished. The lead rider was ahead on me balling down the front straight. The 600rr revved up. I said to myself “oh no you don’t”. Sheesh, the 600rr was closing fast on the rider in front coming up on turn 1. The 600rr is still moving fast, the lead rider brakes and turns, I slightly brake, went deeper, got on the gas right at turn in, and pulled one of the sweetest outside passes I ever did. I went around the outside of the lead rider at full tilt. I exited faster than him too, came up to turn two, and line up 3,4 & 5, so I can hit almost in a straight line, banged them, and now they had a new leader!!
Now, the crew that were following me were in the intermediate class, just like me. My buddy lawdog51 was watching all the action. He told me they followed me for two laps and couldn’t catch me. And right about that time I was at my limit. I said fack this, cause I ain’t never went this fast. I am quiting while I am ahead, on the 3rd lap of leading, coming up to 11, I raised my hand. And zoom, zoom, they shot by me.
While sitting near my trailer, the rider that I passed in turn 1 came over and told me that was a slick pass. I didn’t want to tell him, that is wasn’t me, I was on auto pilot and the 600rr was doing it. Steelrain put a pass on me like that at turn 1 at SP a while back, and I told him, I always want to learn that move. Well, I still haven’t learned it, but my 600rr has.
Getting down to the last session, I go out and do about 3 fast laps, and decided to call it quits. I got tomorrow to do. No, no pics, and no lap times. In reality, my form sucks, and for a few sessions, I was able to ride over my head, and get away with it. That’s the honest truth!!
I am sore from head to toe. When you do Jenny, with any kind of pace, you are moving the bike, one way or another and you are moving it fast. My age is showing.
Tomorrow, I will work on my form, and try to keep the bike from taking over..
All in all a fun day,
