who's bought a new helmet recently?

I want to get a new helmet.  My shoei 1000 is getting kinda loose and honestly, i think i bought the wrong size to begin with.  That and I want to upgrade.  I think I've got an oval head.  I think I want the new shark duhamel but I'm worried about the fit, it feels a little wide on the sides (anyone know if I can change the top liner to a smaller or more fitted version so its tighter)  The medium is the only one that fit, the small was too small.  The Arai profile and rx7 prolly fit the best...

Any one own any of these?  Reviews/comments?  Holla back people.

got to the shop and try things on.

i have arai quantum 2 right now and between shoei and arai i wouldn't wear another helmet.  nothing stands up to constant use and offers as much customization as these two brands.  the interiors don't pull back as much after hours and hours of sweating so the fit is consistent.

crown pads, cheek pads, different thicknesses....you name it, it's adjustable.

ive been looking at the hjc AC12. The fit is awsome. visibility is awsome. i would get an arai but the price is so high but the quality is also high. the little ear pads are the shizzle. but i think i'll go with the hjc cus the visibility and fit are a perfect match for me.  if i get the hjc my agv might be up for sale. its an XL xr-2 rossi replica if anyone wants to send me a feeler offer.Cool

I recently purchased an Arai RX-7 Corsair. I like it a lot! Good fitment, good venting, optically correct shield, light, good field of vision, excellent craftsmanship.

Go try on different helmets at a shop. Since you have an oval head, you may find that the arai's are a better fit for you. check out their site for their different helmet shape types. I just picked up a shoei rf1000 a couple weeks ago and love it. Was rockin a hjc for 2 years and I wish I would have spent the money on a nicer helmet. It fits better, much lighter so I dont get fatigued, and the visor doesnt flip up if I turn my head.

I went down to coleman yesterday actually to try a bunch on.  Thing is i want to make sure I get it right this time so I'm trying to be extra careful to get a helmet that fits right and snug.  I bought a rf1000 for my first helmet but it was a large and now it moves around at high speeds.  I'm not sure it was ever the right size, I prolly should have got a medium to begin w/.

I tried on the arai rx7 and profile (both oval) and they fit pretty well.  In fact, in the profile I can fit into a small ( they didn't have a small rx7).  Its tight...like tight...but it didn't "hurt" my head persay.  It may after 20 minutes but, doesn't the helmet have to break in a bit first anyway?  The medium fit great, not loose, but not as tight like the small.  The guy was worried it would be too snug.

And the shark I wanted to get fit nice too, though it was a bit roomier i felt like around my ears and up top on the sides....its hard to tell exactly.  That was the helmet I wanted to buy, but since fit is most important I'm not so sure anymore.

Mostly I'm just venting.  I'd just don't want to have any regrets.  And I want someon at the store to be like...this helmet fits you pefect, it won't break in anymore, it'll stay just like that forever and won't move around at high speeds at the track.

I just picked up a brand new Suomy Spec 1R Extreme on ebay for $380.  It's light and fits great...comparable to my old AGV.  But definitely recommend trying a helmet before you buy.

first things first....MEASURE your domepiece then work according to the manufacturer's recommended size for that measurement....takes out one of the variables.

say you have a 58cm head...that corresponds to a medium in shoei and arai....so go try on medium shoeis and arais...voila, the correct shaped helmet will feel great.

the only thing you should chage in order to get a good fitting helmet is the shape of the helmet...don't change size once you know the correct size for the circumference of your head.

if you try other brands....the 58 might correspond to a large since it's a borderline circumference.  check their charts.

here's shoei's size chart...same for all their helmets.

Re: who's bought a new helmet recently?

I have or have owned in the past that are recent for comparison are:

    Arai RX-7 Corsair

    Quantum f

    Astral

    Suomy Spec-1r

    SHARK RSR2

    KBC VR2

Out of all these the SHARK had the BEST venting in the group with the RX-7 running next then Suomy's SPEC-1r... I liked the comfiness of the Arai above all else.... very plush, SUOMY's fit very snug and just happens to fit my noggin. SHARK's interior is top notch also but not as plush as the Arai...

If it is true and you do have a oval head then the Arai RX-7 or PROFILE would suit you best. PLUS THERE ARE SO MANY GRAPHICS FOR THE ARAI...

For me, I like the SHARK above the rest...IMHO the best lid right now for track/high speed useYes

anyone have any experience with the arai vector. supposedly alot like the rx7 corsair but without all the extra bells and whistles. and fits the same head shape wise.
