    Thai-tanium: In the Kentlands, others?

Okay, I've been on a mad search for the area's best, decently priced Thai food. So, far, Thai-tanium has got my vote. Can someone suggest a restaurant that might dethrone this current standing in my list? If you say Tara Thai, I will shoot you.

Most folks, including Washingtonian say Duangrats, in Bailey's Crossroads.  I'd agree.

I'm also a big fan of Thai Terrace in Ballston.

Actually went to Thai Tanium last week. It was just okay. Nothing special. Was on par with the rest of the Thai restaurants (Tara thai, thai asia, etc) i've been to.

damn....i could go for some thai tea right now......

Maybe I need to go & eat there.  Got carryout from there before, but carryout is never as good.

54, is good, I like that one too.

There's one hidden in an office building in Courthouse that's good too.  I forget the name, but translated it was either good day or thank you.

I love Thai ice tea.  At Bangkok Golden in Fort Washington, MD it's really sweet with heavy cream.  It's so good when you're eating spicy Thai food.

Re: Thai-tanium: In the Kentlands, others?

Okay, here's how I gauge a good Thai restaurant:

    1. You gotta keep me there from the start: "How's the appetizers?" My litmus test is the Satay. Is it cooked or microwaved? Does it looked grilled? Is it a real artificial looking yellow? What's up?

    2. You gotta do the simple thing well: "How's the Pad Thai?" Texture of the noodles, freshness of the chicken or shrimp, bean sprouts fresh? Etc...

    3. You gotta wet my whistle: "How's the Thai Tea?" Too sweet isn't good. It can't be like candy or a bubble tea drink. Is it gritty, like it's from a mix? Does it taste like tea or sugar? Is it real cream or just creamer mix?

Now, based on that criterion, is there an actual restaurant you've been to that you can recommend? I'm not talking you quote the Washingtonian Top 50 restaurants. I don't even care about atmosphere. The best Pho places are holes in the wall (since I'm Viet, I've looked for the most authentic Pho place; which I've found, btw; awesome stuff); I want to know where the food is good!

I mentioned Thai-tanium because these factors were much better than Tara Thai. I don't know what the restaurant is, but it's located in the plaza by the Arlington Courthouse, I felt like it was too expensive for marginally good Pad Thai. But the tea was good.

    Okay, discuss...

Tara Thai is a local chain.  Ballston, Tysons, probably others.  Sala Thai is another local chain.  Courthouse, Bethesda, probably others.  Neither is great.

Actually, I don't like Cafe Asia, at least the one in Arlington. I heard there's another Cafe Asia in DC that's much better. Same chain, just different and better. I might try that. But I'm going to take LP's advice and try out her's first. She lives by their Pad Thai, so I want to see what all the fuss is about :) Thanks though.
