    Pipe bending???

I have a little problem with my TMR exahust for my R1. I'm trying to put the bike back together and we're running into some problems on the rebuild project. Its hard to explain w/o seeing it since its a pretty rare exhaust, but basically its a little bent (the canister section mostly) and needs to be gently straightened. I say gently b/c its mostly of ceramic composite.

Do any of you guys that do ur own bike work know of the best way to straighten this? Ordering a new pipe is out of the question since Paul has to make it from scratch and turnaround time is about 5-6 weeks, plus I'd rather save that 1300$ and bang this baby back into place.

Pop the rivets, pull the packing, core, baffle. Lightly pull/pound the dent out and reverse the process. You can get new packing from just about any MC store. Those TMR pipes are made of alum or steel i think. The ceramic stuff is the black coating they put on there to keep the heat down on the tail area.

Made of alum. You should easily be able to fix that. If the dent is bad enough, just shorten the cans a little  to remove the dent

    dillo - PM sent

steezo - i'll look into that

ralph - thanks for no info at all

f4 - i think what you are describing in ur first response is a little different from what i have to do.  The canister is not bent, so i don't think I have to mess with any rivets, baffle, or the packing.  And you're right, its ceramic coated, not made of it entirely.

    MOFI

    DIZZN'T BE STIPIDNo

I CAN GIVE YOU MY BEST ADVICE Yes

AND THAT'S TO LISTEN TO WHAT EVER DILLDO TELLS YOU TO DO....

DILLLDO IS LIKE A LEVEL 9 MACGYVER Yes AND I AM ONLY LIKE A LEVEL 7 No

SO THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU IS TO LISTEN TO HIM BECAW I KNOW HE'S GONNA TELL YOU AND GIVE YOU FAR MORE BETTER ADVICE THEN WHAT I CAN GIVE YOU Sleep

BUT IF IT MAKES ANY DIFFERENT HERE IS WHAT I THINK YOU SHOULD DO.  MY HANDICAPE IN THIS MATTER IS THE TYPE OF METAL YOU ARE TRYING TO STRIAGHTEN IS NOT SOMETHING I AM FAMILIAR WITH.  BUT GENERAL METAL BENDING RULES ARE AS FOLLOWES:

FIRST YOU APPLY HET TO IT AND SLOWLY TAP TAP TAP WITH A SMALL HAMER AND APPLY LITTLE PRESURE WITH YOUR HAND (USE A HEAT GLOVE OR SOMETHING LIKE PLAYERS TO GRIP THE PIP SO YOU DON'T BURN YOUR HAND)

    AND JUST

     HEAT HEAT HEAT

     TAP TAP TAP

    PUSH PUSH PUSH

TILL YOU GET IT BACK IN TO THE ORIGINAL SHAP IT WAS IN Yes.

KEY IS SLOWLY MOVE IT BACK IF YOU LOSE PATIANCE AND TRY TO FORCE IT BACK TOO FAST IT WILL BREAK OR RIP NoNoNo
