I left PA on Friday night with Rotorblade and his brother and his wife. We drove all night and arrived at the track almost 15hrs later.
We observed the track and got a feel for how the day was run, but being our first time down there we still had a lot of unanswered questions the day of the event. We registered that night for Sunday and got our pit together. I wanted to meet more of the DC crew, but when we first arrived it was packed so we parked out in the middle of nowhere with the intention of trying to move up to one of the front row pit areas. Once we started unpacking some of the gear and food we decided it was easier just to stay where we were.
Jennings is a great track. At first I was concerned by what seemed to be a lack of structure and control, but once out there it seemed that the riders were courteous and smooth. Overall they get an A for a well run day.
Riding on Sunday was great. Warm temps and dry track allowed me to explore the track. Several aspects of that track are deceiving and finding a smooth line took a little longer than anticipated. In addition, I was rusty and out of shape, so I decided to take a conservative pace and take the time to learn the track. I stab a few and get stabbed very little. Didn’t have any real scary moments. Overall a good day
Day 2 rolls around and it rained all night. Water and puddles everywhere. Clouds are dark and the rain seems to have no end in sight. Muscles were sore from the day before, but we still had the riders meeting and they made first call for expert. We were still deciding what to do and 2 guys head out in expert and start riding. We sit the first one out. By the time they make the second call we’re suited up and decide to go. I didn’t drive 15 hours to not ride. Track was a little slick but overall was fun. Was able to ride the limit, although it was a slower pace. Could feel the front and rear tires struggling for grip. Was actually able to scrape a puck a few times on a soaked track for the first time. As we get closer to lunch the pace picks up as the track starts to dry. I almost get punted off the track by someone trying to take me on the inside. We were on the path to a collision when I noticed him at the last second and decided to straighten out and head to the utside of the track. Luckily we did not collide, but it was close. After lunch it decides to rain again but by then I was already wet so I decided to go out again. Almost lost the rear going into one, but again another save. Deciding it was best not to tempt fate for the third time I decide to pit out and end the session a little early. We loaded up and headed out for the 15 hour return trip.
Heres a short vid taken and some pics taken on Monday in the rain.
