Thanksgiving For The Homeless, November 22, 2008

    All,

Myself, Creoletxn, and a few others will be doing a little something for the homeless folk on Saturday 11/22/08.  We will be driving through DC handing out hot meals to the homeless.  If anyone here is interested in giving us a hand it will be much appreciated.  We will begin our small journey in the morning, a definte time will be determined soon as well as a meeting place.

If you cannot make it that day, but still want to help the cause here are some of the things that are needed:

Prepared meals, can be whatever you can do in a to go box.  Example, chicken, fruit cup, mac & cheese, stuffing, a drink or a winter gift bag(toiletry items, gloves, scarf, hat, thick socks, anything of the sort)  Just looking for people to provide what they can.  If you have old clothes you no longer want, we'll take that also.

Last year Creoletxn spent $60 at Easter and was able to make about 30-40 meals with stuff he bought at Sam's Club.  For Thanksgiving we'll be doing the same and so far we only have 2 people doing bags so that would help if we could get more.

Money donations to buy stuff would help too if people want to do that.  We both have a SUV's if someone wants to prepare things and have one of us just pick it up as well.  If you cannot afford to donate money or prepare any meals or gift bags, that is OKAY.  If all you can do is come help pass out food and bags, then so be it, your are welcome to join us.

This is NOT affiliated with any organization or charity, just a group of people giving to the community.  Maybe if we can get enough interest we can do it in the name of DCSportbikes.Com?

If interested please post up or PM Creoletxn or myself.

    Thanks,

    PR4YME

You guys are masters if you were able to make 30-40 meals with $60 worth of stuff.  I think this is a great idea.  I should be out of the crazy busy time by then and able to help out.  I'll send you a pm.

Ok, here is a update, had to change the date to the 29th due to people working and being out of town no the 22nd(I know the 29th isn't much better).  Still looking for a meet up point as we'll have people coming from VA, DC and MD so we are looking for a neutral spot, but somewhat close to some of the homeless areas.  We are also looking at 3pm for a meetup time as it should be a little warmer outside, but might change it to 2pm depends on how much stuff we get to distribute.  For donations, you can use paypal(jfpayments@gmail.com).

Also, if anyone has any ideas on a good meetup spot that can accomodate a few SUV's and such, let us know.

Haines Point isn't a bad idea.  What we do is ride around DC and there are a few spots that the homeless usually stick around at that we hit up.  After we hit the main spots then we usually ride around the streets and start handing out to the ones that are out in small groups or by themselves.

NY ave has a few spots as well as Mass Ave.  There is a park that is in front of a shelter that isn't far from Union Station that there is usually about 20-30 people at.  I'm going to drive around either this weekend and/or next and plot out a route and locations of spots to stop at.

Easter when we went out, we only had 3 vehicles(SUVs) so it was easier for us to just randomly ride around handing out.  This time since we have more people we are trying to organize it a little better.

Cool! yeah I know a few spots too!

    DC is my hometown!

Defineatly NY Ave from LOVE to the convention center are hot spots, then spots near the whitehouse.

also the park on K and Vermont near the Washington Post.

Defineatly cant forget the GA AVe., Mt Pleasent and Adams Morgan crowd .

BTW I have a SUV as well so its gonna be a nice ride with a bunch of SUV's running through DC handing out food to the homeless.

So far we have 5 SUV's possibly 6.  Those sound like most of the spots we hit last time.  We had a good time and it's funny to see how some of the people got picky with the food choices.

One person brought lasagna meals and was handing them out and one guy said "I don't want this crap, I want the chicken, give me the chicken!"

I think this idea is great. I'm less likely to be free on the 29th, but I'm going to try to help if I can.

Any interest in splitting up dishes, so people could make large batches of food instead of assembling meals individually?

Thanks, not sure how that will work with the meals being in to go boxes and ready to go when we meet up.

Not sure, I bought some bags of mac & cheese from sams already.  Maybe there is someone here that can put it with what they are making?
