Bob Evans - Two thumbs down

On Sunday Jun 29th, I was up in Pittsburgh on my Triumph Tiger.  If anyone remembers that day, it was off and on rain like you wouldn't believe.

Anyway, it had just stopped raining as I was about to head back at 6:30.  The sky was bright, the roads were wet, I hoped I had seen the last of the rain that day.  I spoke too soon, the sky got BLACK as soon as I got to I-79 just north of Washington, and there even looked to be a Tornado/funnel cloud to my west.  No WAY I was going to want to get caught in THAT, so I stopped at a Bob Evans in Washington PA.  I parked my bike the covered area out of the rain.  I got there just in time, and HOW:

You defnitely don't want to be riding in this:

Now to the food.  I ordered what looked pretty appetizing on the menu.  It was a deep dish slow cooked pot roast with carrots on potatoes in sumptuous gravy.  That's the exact description but it was enough to make your mouth water.  I then ordered coffee which I like towards at the end of my meal.

The waitress comes and says Is there anything else I can get you?

    - Yeah, a fork and knife would be nice

The roast beef was not bad, and with all these cheap meals you tend to get an overload of carbs and not all that much meat.  Beef in this case.  The gravy was institutional, heavily salted and you know, the grimy brown stuff you find at any cheap restaurant.  The meal was WAY too salty for my taste.  Why so much salt?  I mean the salt and pepper shakers are right on the table  I ate it all because I was hungry, not because it was good food.

Next the coffee.  You talk about weak coffee, man, they did a great job on this pot!  After recently being in Europe there's no doubt there are two things that are WAY better over there than here, and that's the coffee, and the beer.  I didn't have beer today, but let's just say the coffee at Bob Evan's made the institutional Maxwell House we have at work taste like Starbucks.

Total bill:  $6.99 for the Roat Beef, $1.59 for the coffe.  With tip it came to $10.40

So there you have it.  Bob Evans.  Two thumbs down.  Lousy food.  I don't recommend the place or at least not what I had.

    Fail.

I usually find it better both in taste and price. Places like Fox's or the Apple House are the rule, not the exception in "flyover country". He just hit the rare bad apple.

    you misread.

my statement was that it's unhealthy...as evidenced by the grotesquely overweight folks you see eating at those places.

fast food is designed to be delicious...and it is...but it's a quicker way to die than flavorful healthy food.

i had a delicious omelette at a bob evans in ohio...but it was definitely overly greasy and salt-laden.

I thought for sure as this unfolded it was going to be about them telling you to get your bike off their front sidewalk. Why'd you park it there? You said you'd been in the rain all day anyway?

I put Cracker Barrel, Shoeny's and Bob's all in about the same class, decent food for not a lot of money.  You won't walk out raving about how GREAT the meal was but you won't be stuck just eating a Burger & Fries.

Weak coffee though.... I dunno, that might have put me over the edge too. I'm not picky about coffee, but it's got to have some kick.

Re: Bob Evans - Two thumbs down

I don't know about ADV but when I did my trip to Europe on a Ducati Darmah in the second half of May this year, I pretty much ONLY ordered my food standing up.  Gas was SO expensive, I had to figure out some way to cut corners.  Well, good restaurants in Europe are expensive too, so what I did, is walk into a supermarket, buy a bagel, cheese, a bit of deli meat and fruit and that would be my lunch, and even part of dinner.  The only sit down meal I had was with the hotel that served you breakfast.  In England it was great, a traditional English breakfast would last me 'till early afternoon before I had to think again about food.  Sure, I did sit down to dinner but it wasn't offen, and more often than not I was at a friend's while doing so.

Not really.  No rain on my way up to Pittsburgh, in fact I took a nice way to get there.  88 to the 43 Toll Road, and then 51 into Pitts.  It rained off and on a good four times when I was there.  When I got ready to leave I waited for the rain to stop, so by the time I was back on the road it was 6:30pm.  So...I had not gotten wet, actually, and parking my bike on their sidewalk, I think they were pretty understanding why I did that, when you consider what it looks like in my pics.

    And this had none.

I liked my Bob Evans visit the last time I went a few months back. I felt accepted this time.

Unlike my other few trips years ago where folks stared at me like I was invading their space. LOL So sad too bad mawfakas.

    Foods not too bad either.
